The sample is collected by Nasal Swab.

The is a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) test that detects the genetic information of the virus. That’s only possible if the virus is there and someone is actively infected.

The COVID-19 PCR Test is a sensitive molecular test that targets the detection of three SARS- CoV 2 genes and provides information as to those patients that are currently infectious. PCR test results give a good indication of who is infected. This is information that can break the transmission chain of the virus.

• 2-3 DAY RESULTS (Insurance REQUIRED) –  a $49.00 non-refundable administrative fee for each Standard RT-PCR Test. This administrative fee is not covered by your insurance.
• If you are uninsured, you must select the SAME Day or Next Day Testing Option. Insurance is required for the 2-3 Day Result option.

Results for the Standard RT-PCR test will be reported by email as follows:

• SAME Day Results reported by 6pm (sample must be collected no later than 12:30pm)
• NEXT Day results reported by 6pm
• 2-3 days results reported by 6pm

• Aside from this fee, most people should not face costs for the COVID-19 test. Starting on March 18 and lasting for the duration of the public health emergency, all forms of public and private insurance, including self-funded plans, must now cover FDA-approved COVID-19 tests and costs associated with diagnostic testing with no cost-sharing, as long as the test is deemed medically appropriate by an attending health care provider. This includes high-deductible health plans and grandfathered plans, but does not apply to short-term, limited duration plans. As outlined by CMS in a series of FAQs, there is no limit on the number of COVID-19 tests that an insurer or plan is required to cover for an individual, as long as each test is deemed medically appropriate and the individual has signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or has had known or suspected recent exposure to COVID-19
• The diagnostics lab that we’ve partnered with performs the processing of the sample we collect and is responsible for all associated billing to your insurance company. The processing lab will never send you a bill.

RT-PCR tests detect viral RNA while RAPID antigen tests, detect specific proteins on the surface of the coronavirus. Antigen test results may come back in as little as 15 to 45 minutes; you may wait several days or longer for PCR test results.

Antigen tests are commonly used in the diagnosis of respiratory pathogens, including influenza viruses and respiratory syncytial virus. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for antigen tests that can identify SARS-CoV-2.

Positive results are highly accurate. Negative results may occur and may require a follow-up RT-PCR molecular test.

Because we do not accept insurance for the COVID-19 Rapid Test,  the $97.00 cost for the test applies to those who are insured or uninsured.

Results for the RAPID test will be reported by email within 1-2 hours from the time the sample is collected.

• The cost for the COVID-19 RAPID test is $97.00
• At this time, Akina Pharmacy does not accept insurance for the RAPID test. You are responsible for the entire cost of the test. However, you may independently seek reimbursement directly from your insurance provider.
• The sample collected by Akina Pharmacy will be processed on site and the results will be reported within 1 (one) hour from the time the sample is collected.
